The Dorothy and Herbert Vogel Collection: Fifty Works for Ohio

New York collectors Dorothy and Herbert Vogel, with the assistance of the National Gallery of Art, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Institute of Museum and Library Services, have launched a national gifts program entitled The Dorothy and Herbert Vogel Collection: Fifty Works for Fifty States. The Akron Art Museum has been chosen to receive the fifty works for Ohio.

This year, the Akron Art Museum’s popular summer concert series, Downtown@Dusk, returns for its 27th season, offering a showcase of great music with a lineup of eight great bands.

Offering everything from Zydeco to Alternative Rock, there’s something for everyone sprinkled throughout this year’s concert schedule.  The FREE concerts will be held from 6:30 – 8:30 pm in the museum’s High Street parking lot, or in the Beatrice Knapp McDowell Grand Lobby in case of rain. A variety of beverages (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic) and tasty treats will be available for purchase on the terrace, and other activities, including Family Fun Nights and ArtTalks@Dusk, will take place on the lawn and in the auditorium, respectively.

16th Annual Akron Wine Auction Recap

On Saturday, June 11, 2011, over 223 guests filled the Beatrice Knapp McDowell Grand Lobby for the 16th Annual Akron Wine Auction, presented by Lexus, the title sponsor. Chris and Randy Myeroff and Jeff and Lisa Bruno co-chaired the benefit, which raised nearly $224,000 for museum programs.
