Akron Art Museum paintings, sculptures and several of Paula Nadelstern’s Kaleidoscope Quilts will come to life in the form of flowers. Highlights will include 20 highly artistic floral designs inspired by works on exhibition at the museum, arrayed throughout the galleries. In addition, there will be 25 classes of seasonal cut horticultural specimens from local gardens, plus potted plants, topiaries, edibles, container gardens and miniature landscapes, displayed in the Beatrice Knapp McDowell Grand Lobby.

Annual Meeting and Paul Stankard Glass Preview
This year’s annual meeting, on Tuesday, September 27, offers a thrilling members exclusive. Witness the unveiling of a major gift to the Akron Art Museum from Cleveland collectors Mike and Annie Belkin of glass sculpture and paperweights by Paul Stankard. Meet the donors and artist who created these stunning simulations of plants and flowers from molten glass.
Akron Art Museum doors open at 5 pm for the 5:15 pm unveiling. The annual meeting and Artist Talk at 5:30 will be followed by a reception and book signing.

Detroit Disassembled: Photographs by Andrew Moore opens at Queens Museum of Art
Detroit Disassembled: Photographs by Andrew Moore, organized by the Akron Art Museum, will be on view August 28, 2011-January 15, 2012 at the Queens Museum of Art in New York City. In addition to the national attention the exhibition has received, the exhibition book "Detroit Disassembled"
is now in its third printing and essayist Philip Levine was recently named the Poet Laureate of the United States. "Detroit Disassembled" is available for purchase in the Museum Store.
This exhibition is organized by the Akron Art Museum and made possible by a major gift from Fred and Laura Ruth Bidwell with additional support from the John A. The Dorothy and Herbert Vogel Collection: Fifty Works for Ohio
On view through October 2, 2011
Visit The Dorothy and Herbert Vogel Collection: Fifty Works for Ohio and discover how a librarian and a postal clerk amassed and eventually disseminated such an important art collection. Award-winning filmmaker Megumi Sasaki, whose film Herb and Dorothy aired on PBS stations across the country and is currently playing in the museum’s Shaw Video Box, will give a free lecture on Thursday, September 8, at 6:30 pm.
Seating is available on a first-come, first-seated basis in the Lehner Auditorium.
