Come enjoy an American in Paris themed party to celebrate the opening of Landscapes from the Age of Impressionism. Savor crêpes from The Crêperie as you stroll through a Paris scene listening to live entertainment. You will also have the chance to view complementary exhibitions Michelle Droll: Landslide/ Between a Rock and a Place and SuperNatural: Landscapes by Bruce Checefsky and Barry Underwood.
Be one of the first to experience over 50 impressionist era landscape paintings, a landscape installation of reclaimed materials and landscape photographs enhanced by light. The exhibitions open to the public October 29.

Landscapes from the Age of Impressionism

Landscapes from the Age of Impressionism offers a broad survey of landscape painting as practiced by leading French artists from Gustave Courbet to Claude Monet and their significant American followers including Childe Hassam and John Singer Sargent. This exquisite exhibition of more than fifty paintings will include many of the finest examples of French and American impressionist landscapes from the collection of the Brooklyn Museum as well as American impressionist paintings from the Akron Art Museum.

Michelle Droll: Landslide
Between a Rock and a Place

Captivated by the idea of "building" a landscape painting out of the junk that's found in the contemporary landscape, Kent area artist Michelle Droll questions, "What do we actually see when looking at landscape?" Using scraps from her studio, Styrofoam and other recycled man-made materials, Droll transforms the museum's Judith Bear Isroff gallery with a vibrant sculptural installation that brings lanscape painting to life while at the same time referencing present-day environmental concerns.

SuperNatural: Landscapes by Bruce Checefsky and Barry Underwood

Cleveland artists Bruce Checefsky and Barry Underwood utilize the effects of atmospheric light in addition to outside light sources to create ephemeral moments in the landscape that give viewers the sense of discovering hidden worlds. Their inventive use of photography and light alters our perception of the landscape to reveal unseen aspects.
