K-12 Summer Tour Program

The Akron Art Museum is committed to supporting the educational success of local youth by providing quality educational programs and exciting learning opportunities for students and educators. During the museum’s Summer Youth Tour Program, specially trained docents (museum guides) lead children through the museum's galleries and initiate focused discussions and activities around specially selected groups of art objects.

2012 SUMMER YOUTH TOUR PROGRAM
  • June through August, tours can be scheduled for Wednesdays and Fridays during the following time slots: 9:30 AM, 11:00 AM, and 12:30 PM.
  • Tours last about 45 minutes – 1 hour
  • The museum can accommodate up to 60 students per tour. Large groups of students will be divided into smaller tour groups of 10-15, each led by a separate docent.
  • Groups must provide at least 1 adult chaperone for each group of 12 students.
 
Please note:
All requests must be made at least 3 weeks prior to the tour date.
All requests are subject to docent availability.

LINES, SHAPES & COLORS
Recommended for children ages 4-10
Learn about three important art elements and how artists use them to create a variety of “flavors” and visual treats.
BUILDING & HIGHLIGHTS:
AN INTRODUCTION TO THE AKRON ART MUSEUM
                Recommended for children ages 10 and up
Explore daring architecture ideas and spaces that connect past, present and future as you are lead through the museum’s galleries and are introduced to highlights from the museum’s collection, focused on art produced since 1850.
WHAT’S THE BIG IDEA?
EXPLORING BIG ARTWORKS AND BIG IDEAS
Recommended for children ages 4-12
Artworks come in all different sizes but sometimes they are larger than life. Discover big ideas
transformed into big artworks. View the special exhibition, Gravity & Grace: Monumental Works by El Anatsui and the museum’s biggest artworks.
