In Our Own Backyard: Exploring Ohio Art & Artists

Discover the multitude of Ohio artists represented in the Akron Art Museum’s collection and the richness and diversity they bring to the galleries. Docents will introduce your group to the inspired visions of Ohio artists and the ways they depicted the both the urban and rural sides of the Ohio landscape. Highlights include a visit to the gallery dedicated exclusively to the works of William Sommer, one of this region's most important historical artists.

Explore daring architectural ideas and spaces as docents lead your group through the museum's new and renovated spaces in addition to introducing you to highlights from the collection.

Five Favorites Tour

On Saturdays and Sundays at 2 pm, museum docents lead tours that are a fun, quick way to become acquainted with the collections and exhibitions on view!

Schedule a tour

Tours are available during regular gallery hours with the last tour starting one and a half hours before closing. Tours last approximately 45-60 minutes. From June to August tours are available on Wednesdays and Fridays only.

In order to maximize your time in the galleries and expedite check-in, we ask all groups to pay with a single transaction at Visitor Services.

  • Groups of 15 or more receive the special rate of $6 per visitor.
  • Reciprocal members of other arts institutions receive free admission into the collection, but pay regular fees for a docent or staff-led tour.

You can schedule now online or call.  Tours scheduled online are given priority. Once approved a museum representative will contact you within 3 business days and send confirmation materials.

Motorcoach Tours

We provide a designated bus pull-off, group entrance, ADA accessibility, easily accessible restrooms, museum store and café. Admission for group escort and driver is complimentary. FAM tours available for tour operators.

Nonprofit Social Service Agencies

To make the visitor experience accessible to all, we offer free tours to beneficiaries of nonprofit social service agencies whose clients would otherwise be financially unable to visit.

We provide quality programs and exciting learning opportunities for students and teachers from all education levels.

The museum offers free admission to all children who tour the museum with their daycare, home-school group, Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops.
