Burgess Cellars Mountain Winery
Burgess Cellars has been family owned and creating wines with mountain distinction since 1972 on Howell Mountain in Napa Valley. When its founder Tom Burgess, who grew up in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, purchased the 1870s-era winery in 1972, he established himself as a pioneer of mountainside wineries. Today, the second generation is building on Tom’s legacy. Brothers Steven Burgess and James Burgess took over as President and Vineyard Manager respectively. At almost 1,000 feet, far over the valley floor, Burgess Cellars produces wines from their two estate hillside vineyards, Winery Ranch Vineyard and Haymaker Vineyard. Their hillside grapes tend to be smaller, with more concentrated flavors and tannins, varietal intensity and excellent aging properties.
Burgess Cellars produces wines out of two distinct Estate Vineyard sites.
Winery Ranch Vineyard - Our flagship wine, Cabernet Sauvignon, thrives on the western slopes of Howell Mountain at the winery location.
Haymaker Vineyard - Established by brush-breaker Tom Burgess in the 1980s, now owned and managed by Jim Burgess. A great source of mountain Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Sirah, and blending varieties.
