Join John S. Knight Executive Director and CEO Mark Masuoka for a Last Look tour of Jun Kaneko: Blurred Lines. 

Highlighting transformational moments throughout Kaneko’s five-decade career, the exhibition includes several large-scale ceramic sculptures, drawings, paintings and a site-specific installation of his 65-foot-long painting, Mirage. Blurred Lines also represents the first Akron Art Museum exhibition curated by Masuoka, who drew on a nearly 35-year relationship with the artist—Masuoka's mentor and friend—to create the exhibition.

Bring a picnic blanket and some wet naps—we’re cooking up some sweet and sticky art recipes in our garden kitchen. Roll out sunbaked clay pies, try your hand at printmaking-on-the-cob and glaze canvas with edible molasses paint. When the feast is done, wash away the day with dancing in the sprinkler.

Special guest: The Jammin’ Jumpers jumprope team will perform from 12 – 12:30 pm.

Akron Art Museum’s Family Day events are designed for children aged 0-12. Adults must be accompanied by a child. Siblings are always welcome.

Event-related activities are free. Admission to the galleries is free for ALL children (age 17 and under with an adult) and adult members. Non-member adult admission is $10.

Registration encouraged (due to limited supplies) but drop-ins welcome!

The Akron Garden Club returns to Akron Art Museum June 15-17 to produce Art Blooms, a Garden Club of America flower show. Inspired by the revitalization of Akron, the show will exhibit outstanding horticulture, conservation, photography and floral interpretations of fine art.

Highlights will include 20 highly artistic floral designs inspired by works on exhibition at the museum, arrayed throughout the galleries. There also will be 12 entries of jewelry and other embellished items made entirely from dried botanical material. In addition, the show will feature 26 classes of seasonal cut horticultural specimens from local gardens, houseplants, terrariums and container gardens and 30 landscape and horticultural photographs. A conservation exhibition about Akron Waterways Renewed! will educate about the city’s multi-year, billion-dollar water quality improvement project.

Open to the public June 15-17, 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Museum admission fees apply.

Meets at the Akron-Summit County Public Library (Main Library, 60 South High St)

Featured in the Akron Art Library and recently added to the Akron Art Museum’s permanent collection, Miller Horns was a local artist and activist known for exploring the medium of electrostatic printmaking, and for his dedication to commemorating African-American history in Akron.

Join us for a timely trolley tour of Miller Horns’ public works steeped in local history and anecdotes about the late artist led by former close friend and mentee Terry Klausman. We will begin at Akron-Summit County Public Library Main Library, make several stops throughout Akron, and end at the Akron Art Museum for a private viewing of three recent acquisitions created by Horns.

These artworks will be Miller’s first to enter the museum’s permanent collection—register now to be among the first to see these newly acquired electrostatic prints. This is a unique experience not to be missed!

Join us for the kick-off of the Akron Art Museum's Downtown@Dusk concert series, featuring Grammy-award winning jazz trumpeter Curtis Taylor, accompanied by Akron’s Theron Brown.

Taylor has performed with pianist Cyrus Chestnut at the Kennedy Center (recorded for NPR’s Jazzset), played engagements at Dizzy’s Club in New York City and toured extensively around the world. He has also performed and recorded with rising jazz star Gregory Porter.  

Downtown@Dusk concerts are held in the Akron Art Museum's Bud and Susie Rogers Garden. In the event of inclement weather, concerts are held on the terrace, or moved to the museum lobby.

Spend a relaxing summer evening with friends and family in our beautiful downtown garden, the perfect venue for outdoor music and a cool drink. Throughout the summer, the museum café will offer delicious food options, including ice cream novelties and ice-cold beverages.

Downtown@Dusk is presented by the Akron Art Museum, with additional support Ron and Ann Allan, Audio-Technica, EarthQuaker Devices and Clear Gold Audio.
