The Care and Handling of Treasures at Home

August 2, 2018, 6:00 pm

* * * This program will be held in Meeting Room 1 at Akron-Summit County Public Library, Main Library, located near the High Street Entrance * * *

Heirlooms such as photographs, film and art objects can pass on our families’ stories for generations to come—but only if they’re carefully preserved.

Join Holly Witchey, Director of Education & Outreach for ICA, the Intermuseum Conservation Association, for an evening of discussion on how to handle, care for, and eventually pass on your family treasures.

Bring a few small art objects and photographs from your collection to exhibit in a Pop Up Museum of Family Treasures. The Art Library Program Coordinator will help you document and share the stories behind these objects from one generation to the next.

Free and open to all. Register online using the link / button below.

This program is part of the Akron Art Library, an art lending program in partnership with the Akron-Summit County Public Library. Find out more about the Akron Art Library here.

ICA is the oldest nonprofit regional conservation center in the United States, dedicated to the preservation of artistic & cultural heritage materials. Learn more about ICA here.

This is a Curated Storefront and Akron Soul Train Event

Free and Open to All

Four local and regional artists with artwork featured in the Curated Storefront project in downtown Akron will each give short artist talks about their work and artistic process. The talks will conclude in a panel Q&A with all of the artists.

Registration is required. Register online using the button / link below.

Four local and regional artists with artwork featured in the Curated Storefront project in downtown Akron, including Akron Soul Train artist fellows, will each give short artist talks about their work and artistic process. The talks will conclude in a panel Q&A with all of the artists. Artist talks will be from Stephen Tomasko and Gabe Gott from AKron Soul Train, and those from Curated Storefront will be announced soon!

Stephen Tomasko is represented in public and private collections, both nationally and internationally, including the permanent collection of the Akron Art Museum. His work has been exhibited widely in regional group exhibitions and the subject of solo gallery exhibitions in Los Angeles, Australia, and France. Since the mid-1980s, Tomasko has made images of America, including bodies of photographs with diverse subjects ranging from jubilant celebrations of flowering gardens to the dynamic, strange beauty of county fairs. Today, he makes art full time in Bath, Ohio. Stephen was an Akron Soul Train fellow in September 2017.

Gabe Gott lives in Akron, Ohio, with his wife, Sarah, the unwitting caretakers of a home for retired house pets. During the day, he works as a team lead/trainer for a market intelligence company based out of Chicago, but during his free time writes fiction and poetry. He has published a novel, Escapes (2014), two flash fiction chapbooks, The Ever-Present Moment (2016) and Dispatches from the Information Age (2017), and a poetry collection, Live Organ Transplants (2017). Gabe was an AST fellow in March 2018.
