The Akron Community Foundation has launched On the Table, a first-of-its-kind initiative that will bring together thousands of diverse residents from all walks of life to share a meal and discuss meaningful ideas to strengthen our community.

On Wednesday October 3 at 8:30 AM, the Akron Art Museum will host a conversation about equity and social inclusion in the arts and beyond inspired by works in the Akron Art Museum collection. Gather at the museum for a cup of coffee at 8:30 AM and head into the galleries for a conversation with Akron Art Museum staff and community members stationed in front of breathtaking and impactful works like Mickalene Thomas' Girlfriends and Lovers and Malcah Zeldis' Amadou Diallo.

Putting pencil to paper builds confidence. Join the world’s biggest celebration of drawing and embrace happy accidents through self-discovery. You can play with line at any age!

Art meets play every first Thursday! Make plans to bring your kids age 1-5 and let them create meaningful messes and indulge in inventive play. Celebrate your child’s creative side, with a little imagination; everyday materials have infinite potential. Kids can create their own objects of wonder or work together with friends. This program provides kids with a sensory-rich, open-ended experience. Art smocks provided.

Synapse Lecture: Peter Galison

The Charles and Jane Lehner Auditorium

Peter Galison is the Pellegrino University Professor of the History of Science and Physics at Harvard University. His achievements include a John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation Fellowship (1997); a Pfizer Award for Image and Logic (1998), the Max Planck and Humboldt Stiftung Prize (1999) and the Abraham Pais Award in the History of Physics (2018). He is an author and filmmaker. His films include Secrecy (2008) and Containment (2015). Galison has collaborated with artist William Kentridge on a multi-screen installation, The Refusal of Time (2012) and an associated chamber opera, Refuse the Hour.
