Drawing on art historical sources and Eastern and Western decorative traditions, Fred Tomaselli’s works explode in mesmerizing patterns that appear to grow organically across his compositions. Tomaselli has had numerous solo exhibitions and has been included in international biennial exhibitions. His work has been collected by the Museum of Modern Art, NY, Whitney Museum of American Art, the Brooklyn Museum, Albright Knox Gallery and the Museum of Contemporary Art, LA.

Free and open to the public. 

Funded by the Knight Foundation, the University of Akron Synapse series explores enlightened collaborations between art and science.

In addition to showcasing top-rated beers from both Ohio and regional breweries along with delicious offerings from local food purveyors, Art & Ale 2019 presents a juried award for best overall brew and a people’s choice prize—complete with museum-worthy trophies.

Kid Flix 1: Animated Shorts (for ages 3 - 7)
starts at 12:30 pm, ends 1:30 pm

Kid Flix 1 engages the silly side of young film buffs, combining imaginative shorts ranging from microorganisms that host cleaning parties to zoo animals who lead double lives behind the scenes; but most importantly, your little ones will want to cheer for unlikely heroes that get back up from repeated falls.

Kid Flix 2: Live Action & Animated Shorts (for ages 8+)
starts at 2:30 pm, ends at 3:45 pm

Kid Flix 2 With a compelling range of styles and themes, Kid Flix 2 offers clever, thought-provoking films sure to inspire audiences ages 8+ to expand their horizons. In the Grand Prize award-winner Game (USA), AJ has the drive to excel but must push through obstacles to get there. Meanwhile, teamwork takes on different stripes when an odd couple of bears are forced to work together in the hilarious stop-motion short Poles Apart (UK). Plus, the CG-animated wonder Gokurōsama (France) bridges cultures and generations by showing us that even in an automated age, a little human touch can still work wonders.

Join us for an all-day communal updating of Wikipedia entries aimed to create and improve coverage on subjects related to gender, art, and feminism.

The Akron Art Museum will participate in the 2019 Art + Feminism Wikipedia Edit-a-thon on March 23 from 11 am – 4 pm. Join us for an all-day communal updating of Wikipedia entries aimed to create and improve coverage on subjects related to gender, art, and feminism. No Wikipedia editing experience necessary!

Tutorials for beginner Wikipedians, reference materials and refreshments will be provided throughout the day. Please bring your laptop, power cord and ideas for entries that need updating or creation.

At 2 pm, join Director of Education Alison Caplan for Girls to the Front: Women Artists in the Akron Art Museum, an hour long tour of work by female identifying artists in the museum collection. 

People of all gender identities and expressions are welcome and encouraged to attend. This event is free*, but please register to attend!

*Does not include admission to museum galleries (regular admission prices apply)

What should I work on?

  • If you have one hour or less, attend a training session and learn more about editing Wikipedia.
  • If you have 90 minutes, attend a training session and add citations to an article.
  • If you have two hours, attend a training session and add a well-cited paragraph to an article.
  • If you are spending the day with us, draft a new article, gathering reliable sources and checking in with staff or volunteers to ensure that your article meets Wikipedia’s notability guidelines.
