Art + Feminism Wikipedia Edit-a-Thon
The Akron Art Museum will participate in the 2019 Art + Feminism Wikipedia Edit-a-thon on March 23 from 11 am – 4 pm. Join us for an all-day communal updating of Wikipedia entries aimed to create and improve coverage on subjects related to gender, art, and feminism. No Wikipedia editing experience necessary!
Tutorials for beginner Wikipedians, reference materials and refreshments will be provided throughout the day. Please bring your laptop, power cord and ideas for entries that need updating or creation.
At 2 pm, join Director of Education Alison Caplan for Girls to the Front: Women Artists in the Akron Art Museum, an hour long tour of work by female identifying artists in the museum collection.
People of all gender identities and expressions are welcome and encouraged to attend. This event is free*, but please register to attend!
*Does not include admission to museum galleries (regular admission prices apply)
What should I work on?
- If you have one hour or less, attend a training session and learn more about editing Wikipedia.
- If you have 90 minutes, attend a training session and add citations to an article.
- If you have two hours, attend a training session and add a well-cited paragraph to an article.
- If you are spending the day with us, draft a new article, gathering reliable sources and checking in with staff or volunteers to ensure that your article meets Wikipedia’s notability guidelines.
