Art Babes: Texture, Reach, and Grasp

Best for ages 0-12 months and their grown-ups

It’s a pint-sized artdate for caregivers and their rollers, sitters, scooters and dribblers. Park the stroller and cozy up in our circle of babes for sensory play, face-to-face bouncy rhymes and social games to inspire baby’s curiosity and build first relationships. Happy babbles and crying are welcome! After class, make time for coffee, talk, and play a while in our baby-friendly space.

$5/member child, $10/nonmember child. *Registration required.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s legacy inspires transformation through creativity. Celebrate King’s vision by recharging your imagination with hands-on art activities, games and storytelling paired with artists from the museum’s contemporary collection.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s legacy inspires transformation through creativity. Celebrate King’s vision by recharging your imagination with hands-on art activities, games and storytelling paired with artists from the museum’s contemporary collection.

Hands-on activities include:
Story-swap • Contribute your memorable family story to our tapestry of family stories
Create-your-own-message button-making
Collaborative Pop Art portraits
Build a time capsule to commemorate important family events

All adults participating in the hands-on activities must be accompanied by a child.

1:15 pm • Guided tour of Jeff Donaldson: Dig, led by Associate Curator Theresa Bembnister
3 pm • Guided tour of work by artists of African descent in the museum collection, led by Director of Education Alison Caplan

Free. No registration required. Gallery admission is free for all. Adults must be accompanied by a child.

Aspiring artists need opportunities to question, make mistakes and test ideas. Guided by a practicing studio artist-educator, students engage with contemporary art up close then funnel personal responses into inspiring oops, wows and what-ifs in the studio.

Kids Studio: Toothpaste-Resist Fabric Dying - Cubist Style

Best for ages 6 – 10

Aspiring artists need opportunities to question, make mistakes and test ideas. Guided by a practicing studio artist-educator, students engage with contemporary art up close then funnel personal responses into inspiring oops, wows and what-ifs in the studio. Inventiveness using unique materials and exploring the creative process of art-making are key components to our studio experience. Caregivers welcome to participate but not required to stay. Dress for messy fun.
