Connect with Dot, your new AAM digital tour guide.

Whether you're here solo or with friends or family, Dot will lead you through the galleries and give you fun opportunities to explore the art on display while you connect with friends or family, or learn something new about yourself. It all happens through your smartphone. Just connect with Dot on Facebook Messenger and she’ll lead the way:
  1. Connect to the museum's WiFi at Akron Art Guest (password is onehighst)
  2. Click on the Messenger app on your phone
  3. Type AAM Dot into the search field
  4. Tap Dot's picture and the Get Started button and you are on your way

Kids Creative Playdate - Rails, Wings and Cardboard Things

Best for ages 12 months – 5 years and their grown-ups (siblings welcome)

Art meets play every first Thursday! Make plans to bring your kids age 1-5 and let them create meaningful messes and indulge in inventive play. Celebrate your child’s creative side, with a little imagination; everyday materials have infinite potential. Kids can create their own objects of wonder or work together with friends. This program provides kids with a sensory-rich, open-ended experience. Art smocks provided.

Free for members. $10/non-member child.

Dig In: HR3: Beats, Drums, and Music

Join us for a performance by one of three reknowned local African-American artists. Each of the featured artists will create a work of art inspired by Donaldson that will be performed live in the museum. Video of the performances will be presented throughout the run of the exhibition.

Akron arts publication The Devil Strip teamed up with the museum to create video profiles of three African-American artists in the Akron community that will be on view in the museum’s Jerry and Patsy Shaw Video Box during the run of Jeff Donaldson: Dig. Each of the featured artists will create a work of art inspired by Donaldson that will be performed live in the museum. Video of the performances will be presented throughout the run of the exhibition.

GroundWorks DanceTheater’s 2018 Fall Series features the world premiere of a dynamic new project created in partnership with the Akron Art Museum and funded by a Knight Foundation Arts Challenge award. GroundWorks Artistic Director David Shimotakahara was given permission to work in response to an important piece from the Museum’s permanent collection, the magnificent Dzesi II by internationally-renowned artist El Anatsui. Initially part of the Akron Museum’s 2012 exhibition, Gravity and Grace, Dzesi II has become one of the most popular works in its collection.

In addition to the performance of this exciting new work, each showing will also feature audience engagement with commentary by Artistic Director David Shimotakahara and Akron Art Museum Chief Curator Ellen Rudolph.
