Your Visit

June 29, 2017

Welcome to the Akron Art Museum! We're glad you are here!

Here's what you need to know to make the most of your visit:

To enjoy the museum and keep artworks safe, please:

Look, but don't touch the artwork. Works of art are fragile, so we recommend keeping a two-foot distance.

Stay together. Children 12 and under must be supervised by an adult at all times. We recommend holding hands in the galleries with younger children.

Groups
For summer experiences, summer camps and educational groups must book a tour time with the museum’s education department. For groups of children under ten years of age, the museum requires an adult to child ratio of 1:5 for all groups that do not register in advanced for summer tour experiences.

Food and Drink
Please don't bring food or drinks into the galleries. Food and drinks are okay to have in the museum lobby, the garden, and the museum café.

Bags and Backpacks
Please don't bring bags larger than 11 x 17 x 8 inches (about the size of 2 sheets of notebook paper side-by-side) into the galleries. Backpacks must be worn on the front of the body. You can check a large bag for free in the lockers located in the hallway between the museum shop and the café.

Summer Group Tours
Do you have a group of super spies in the midst of your summer camp program? Undertake a spy mission and unlock the secret code that will allow your super sleuth campers to see like an artist. Our education team will give you the top secret instructions along with a special scavenger hunt that will guide you and your students to unlock the secret code and win a special prize. Groups must book a top secret mission with the museum’s education department at least 3 weeks in advance. The museum requires an adult to student ratio of 1:5 for all summer groups on the spy mission. Children are required to stay with an adult chaperone throughout their visit. General museum rules and manners apply. Spy mission experience is free, but requires advanced registration.

Photography & Sketching
You are welcome to take photographs of artwork on view for personal use unless otherwise noted. If you get a great photo, share your experience online! Use one of the hashtags associated with a particular artwork or exhibition, and tag the Akron Art Museum. We may share your photo with everyone we know! Please don't use flashes, tripods, easels, or selfie sticks—those items can harm the artwork and / or make it difficult for others to enjoy the galleries.

Sketching and drawing with pencil in the galleries is also permitted. Drawing with pens or ink or media other than pencil is not permitted.

Visitor Services Associates
Have a question? Ask any member of our visitor services team in the galleries, garden, museum shop, café, lobby or library. We can tell you about the artwork on view, programs and events, where things are located, and much more! We're here to help make your visit a great one!
