William E. Dassonville

(Sacramento, 1879 - 1957, San Francisco)
California Pictorialist W.E. Dassonville was renowned as a photographer for his romantic images of the California landscape and historic architecture, although he photographed many other subjects including industry.  He was close friends with the landscape painter William Keith, whose works are also in the museum’s collection.  Dassonville also claims a place in the history of photography is as the creator of Charoal Black, a photographic printing paper.
