Image: Self-Portrait
(Detroit, Michigan, 1867 - 1949, Northfield Center, Ohio)

Self-Portrait , undated

Ink on paper
16 in. x 12 in. (40.64 cm x 30.48 cm)
Gift of Robert Bordner
Although this ink drawing is undated, it clearly depicts the artist later in his life. This self-portrait was given to the museum by Sommer’s friend and neighbor, Robert Bordner, who also donated the much-loved painting "Bordner Mural".

In 1929, at the age of 62, Sommer found himself without a job as a commercial printer when the more efficient and cheaper method of off-set printing replaced lithography.  Sommer was now able to devote all of his time to his art.
