On September 15, after a summer rife with anti-Semitic assaults, vandalism and boycotts, national anti-Semitic laws were enacted.  By showing a range of people heartily singing, Heartfield suggests that the average citizen, not just Nazi Party members, supported these policies.

Heartfield’s montage is the back of the publication,  the issue’s cover is an anonymous documentary image of American social unrest showing California strikers who have been tarred and feathered by “public forces.”
