Burrows worked as a freelance photographer for Life magazine's London bureau, but he is best known for his work as a combat photographer in Vietnam.  Fascinated by advances in photographic technology, Burrows carried many newly-invented types of lenses and filters into battle and experimented with different kinds of film.  This enabled him to capture here the dusty haze surrounding the soldiers as well as the vivid, jewel-like colors of the flag and foliage.  Burrows died when his helicopter was shot down along the border between Vietnam and Laos.
