Although trained as a portrait painter, Wilson was among the most successful publishers of scenic landscape photography in the nineteenth century.  He intended that his relatively inexpensive photographs would have broad appeal; he said that he "studied the popular taste" in order to find subjects that would be instantly appealing to customers.
The Long Walk at Windsor Castle connects the castle complex with Windsor Great Park to the south and offers the most dramatic approach to the castle.  At one end of the walk and visible in the distance here is a statue of King George III, who helped develop the park at the turn of the nineteenth century.
