In 1980, Lipski, who often found the manufactured objects he for his sculptures at surplus stores or in dumpsters, acquired a large supply of paint brush handles from a company that was going out of business.  He proceeded to combine them with rice, string, plywood and steel in a series of works titled Passing Time.  When Lipski, who has long favored contrasting different types of materials, returned to this trove for Untitled #64, he combined the stiff brush handles with pliant rubber.  As is typical of his work, Lipski’s arrangement of unlikely objects is both elegant and amusing.
