Appraisals and Sale
The Akron Art Museum is not able to estimate the monetary value of artworks since offering appraisals could be considered a conflict of interest. If you are investigating the value of an artwork, we recommend contacting a professional appraiser. Appraisers may charge fees for their services.

If you wish to sell an artwork that you own, we recommend you contact a gallery or auction house. The museum rarely purchases artwork from private individuals.

A list of resources to help locate an appraiser, fine art consultant, gallery or auction house is provided for your convenience below.

Requests for research of our collection, exhibitions, archives or other topics will be answered as quickly as possible but may require several days or weeks depending on the complexity of the request and staff availability. Requests should be directed to

If you would like to review materials from the Akron Art Museum’s Martha Stecher Reed Library collection or the Museum Archives, research assistance is available during select hours in the Reading Room. Please call ahead to confirm open hours or to make an appointment at 330.376.9186, x 221.

Care and Conservation
The Akron Art Museum does not offer art conservation services. Below are contacts for regional conservators that may be able to assist with care, cleaning, or storage of artwork.

Donate Art
The museum’s collection of modern and contemporary art has grown largely through generous donations. Any proposed gift that the Curatorial Department wishes to add to the collection must be approved by our Collections Committee and Board of Directors in a process that takes as long as six months to a year. The Akron Art Museum collects original fine art dating from 1850 to the present. The museum is not able to accept unidentified objects or reproductions.

If you would like to offer artwork for consideration as a gift to the museum, please send in an email to the following information. If you do not know these details, it would be helpful to research the artwork or pursue an appraisal before offering it to the museum.
