Akron, OH -- CEO and Executive Director Mark Masuoka announced the appointment of Carol A. Murphy as Chief External Affairs Officer at the Akron Art Museum. She will oversee all of the museum’s community efforts and visitor experiences in development, membership, marketing, special events and the retail operations.
Most recently the Chief of Staff at Akron’s University Park Alliance, Murphy is no stranger to the museum. “What an exciting time to be coming home to the museum. I look forward to working with Mark and the staff as we re-examine the museum’s role in the Akron community and the region,” she said. She served as the museum’s Director of Special Projects, managing the renovation and construction of the John S. and James L. Knight Building. Prior to the museum’ expansion she directed the museum’s daily operations.
“This is a time of re-visioning the Akron Art Museum and its role in the community,” said Masuoka. “Carol brings her valuable community and institutional experience back to the museum to help initiate a reorganization to increase community engagement and sustainability.”
Murphy has over 20 years experience in nonprofit leadership with expertise in organizational and project management, business administration and strategic planning. Her approach has been focused on and motivated by “making things happen.”
