For Release: July 2008
Akron, Ohio, July 15, 2008 — Elizabeth M. Wilson has been named the Director of Marketing Communication, a newly created position for the Akron Art Museum. Wilson will be responsible for developing and coordinating the implementation of all aspects of the museum’s marketing and communications program and coordinating and editing most museum publications.
Wilson comes to the Akron Art Museum with an extensive background in advertising and public relations. For the last fifteen years, Wilson served as the Director of Marketing Communications for Barberton Citizens Hospital, where she directed the launch of the hospital’s “The Care You Want Is Here” brand as well as many new services campaigns. Several of the campaigns that Wilson directed won numerous Addy Awards and the Public Relations Society of America’s national Silver Anvil Award.
“This is a very exciting growth period for the Akron Art Museum,” said Wilson. “Audiences from all over the world have learned of this magnificent jewel in Akron, Ohio through all the local, regional, national and international media attention the museum has received since opening the John S. and James L. Knight Building. I’m looking forward to the challenge of turning these audiences into visitors and visitors into members.”
Prior to her time at the hospital, Wilson worked as the Public Relations and Advertising Director for both Carousel Dinner Theatre and Tangier Restaurant. While at Tangier she developed the restaurant’s successful motor coach marketing program. Wilson was also a part-time instructor for The University of Akron’s School of Communication where she taught creative copy writing.
An active member in the community, Wilson has served on the board of the American Heart Association for the past 21 years, and has formerly served with Miller South School for the Visual and Performing Arts, Magical Theatre Company, Northeast Ohio Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation, The American Diabetes Association and The University of Akron Alumni Council.
A West Akron resident, Wilson and her husband Steve are the parents of three children.
