Dr. Sketchy's Anti-Art School is now in Akron!
First event to be held at the Akron Art Museum

For Release: October 2009

Akron, Ohio, October 6, 2009 — The Akron Art Museum will host a special Halloween presentation of the internationally renowned Dr. Sketchy’s Anti-Art School, Akron division. The program will be featured as the ARTLab during the year’s first Third Thursday concert on Thursday, October 15 from 6:30 to 9 pm. The Akron Art Museum will be the first venue of the Dr. Sketchy’s monthly series in downtown Akron.

Dr. Sketchy’s offers life drawing sessions with a cabaret twist. It is the world’s premier alternative drawing movement. Every month more than 3,500 artists gather in different cities around the world, including New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, London and Tokyo, to sketch glamorous models and compete in drawing contests in an atmosphere of artistic mayhem. Started in Brooklyn by Molly Crabapple, an artist and former model, as an alternative to the dull drawing classes she had posed for, Dr. Sketchy’s has become an international phenomenon.

At the October 15th event, “Auntie Anti” will host the session as “Shannon di’Vine” models feathered and bedazzled show-girl costumes. Attendees can compete with other sketchers for prizes provided by the Akron Art Museum. Art supplies will be available at the free event, and no reservations are required.

The evening’s concert will feature Shivering Timbers and Crystal Visions as they costume up and pay homage to their influences, Neil Diamond and Fleetwood Mac. The Quick Look tour will focus on Emile-Antoine Bourdelle’s Figures Hurlantes (Howling Figures), and Thirsty Dog Brewing Company will be the featured microbrewery for the night. The entire event is FREE and also features a cash bar.

Parking is also free in the High Street municipal garage directly across the street from the entrance of the Akron Art Museum. All activities take place in the Beatrice Knapp McDowell Grand Lobby.
