For Release: May 23, 2019
Akron, Ohio—The Akron Art Museum will welcome children and families to the first of three summer Family Days on Saturday, June 1, 2019 from 11:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. The June event, Backyard Art-BQ, will be held in the Bud and Susie Rogers Garden and will present a range of STEAM-based activities for children ages 0 – 12, along with their siblings and adult caregivers. Backyard Art-BQ is free and open to all families. Registration is requested at http://bit.ly/AAM_ArtBQ.
Akron Art Museum educator Amanda Crowe said, “We’re looking forward to a great summer kickoff party for kids and families in the garden, with plenty of hands-on activities that give children the opportunity to engage with art, science and constructive play.”
Backyard Art-BQ includes sensory-rich projects such as basil and lemongrass watercolor spritz painting, sunbaked clay pies, Kool-Aid tie-dye printmaking and fizzy art-BQ sauces, using kid-friendly ingredients such as vinegar and baking soda in the museum’s garden test kitchen. Family Day will also include water play and prismatic bubble concoctions. In the event of inclement weather, activities will take place on the terrace and in the museum lobby.
Registration for Family Day: Art Bar-BQ is recommended at http://bit.ly/AAM_ArtBQ. Family Day event-related activities are free for children ages 0 – 12, along with their siblings and their adult caregivers.
Admission to the galleries is free for adult members and ALL children (age 17 and under with an adult). Regular gallery admission applies to nonmember adults.
Upcoming Family Days at the Akron Art Museum are scheduled for Thursday, August 8, which will feature a family concert featuring three-time Grammy award-nominee Justin Roberts & the Not Ready for Naptime Players, and Saturday, August 15, which will feature back-to-school activities.
Family Days are made possible by PNC with additional support from the Kathy Moses Salem Philanthropic Fund of the Akron Community Foundation, The R.C. Musson and Katharine M. Musson Charitable Foundation and the Robert O. and Annamae Orr Family Foundation.
