news release An Art-Full Fall for Kids and Families at the Akron Art Museum

For Release: September 20, 2016

Akron—The Akron Art Museum plans a full season of activity for children and families this fall. In addition to the museum’s popular Live Creative programs for ages 0 to 12, Trick or Treat on South High Street returns on Thursday, October 27, from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M.

Trick or Treat on South High Street is for all ages and their grown-ups and includes an evening of fun, art-making, trick-or-treat in the galleries for art supplies, and a spooky musical performance. Kids are encouraged to come in costume. The event is free for museum members and $10 per child for non-members. Registration is required for all kids and family programs. Register online at AkronArtMuseum.org/eventregistration, or call 330-376-9186.

Additionally, the art museum’s Live Creative programs bring fun and inspiration to kids of all ages. Beginning with the very youngest children, Art Babes, for 0 to 18-month-olds and their grown-ups provides experiences for babies that engage a full range of sensory activities, including visually stimulating play with colors and shapes, as well as tactile play, sounds, tastes, even scents. It’s a welcoming environment for a unique learning (and bonding) experience between babies and their grown-ups. Art Babes meets on the following Thursdays: September 22, October 20 and November 17 in A.M. and P.M. sessions on each day. A.M. sessions meet at 11:15 A.M., and P.M. sessions meet at 1:00 P.M.

Creative Playdates, for 0 to 5 year-olds and their grown-ups, offers open-ended play that lets kids stretch their imagination, make a mess, and meet new friends. As an added bonus, the art museum handles all of the clean-up afterwards. Creative Playdates meet on Thursdays: October 6 and November 3 from 11:15 A.M. to 12:30 P.M.

Art Tales, for all ages and their grown-ups, engages children with interactive storytelling, songs, rhymes and art. Art Tales meets on Thursdays: October 13 and November 10, from 11:15 A.M. to 12:30 P.M.

Tots Create, for 2 and 3-year-olds and their grown-ups, gives toddlers the opportunity to explore different mediums, textures, colors and shapes—all while making a beautiful mess. Tots Create meets on Saturdays: October 1 and November 5, from 10:30 A.M. to 12:00 P.M.

Kids Studio classes, for ages 7 to 12, present kids with the chance to explore unique materials, experimental processes and extraordinary works of art—just like professional artists. The experience gives them a fresh perspective in thinking creatively, while building confidence along the way. Kids Studio meets on Saturdays: October 1 and November 5, from 1:00 to 3:00 P.M.

Visit AkronArtMuseum.org/calendar to read full descriptions of each program and to register. Art Babes, Tots Create and Kids Studio classes are $10 per museum member child and $15 per non-member child. Art Tales and Creative Playdates are free for children of museum members and $10 and $15, respectively, per child for non-members.
