news release Artists Do the Talking in August, September at the Akron Art Museum

For Release: August 3, 2017

Akron, Ohio—Northeast Ohio artists Lori Kella, Bruce Checefsky and Michael Loderstedt, each currently featured in the Akron Art Museum exhibition Serial Intent, will visit the museum to talk about their art in August and early September.

Lori Kella, an assistant professor at Kent State University’s School of Art, will present her photographic series, The Seven Summits, on Saturday, August 12 at 2:00 P.M. The series, composed of staged photographs the artist painstakingly constructed out of painted paper, depicts the tallest mountain on each on continent. The talk is free for museum members and free with the price of admission for non-members.

Filmmaker and curator for the Cleveland Institute of Art’s Reinberger Galleries, Bruce Checefsky will talk about his Garden series—lush photographic images of flowers and plants he creates using a flatbed document scanner—on Thursday, August 24 at 6:30 P.M. Checefsky will also provide a demonstration of his image-making process in the museum’s Bud and Susie Rogers Garden. The talk and demonstration are free and open to all.

On Thursday, September 7 at 6:30 P.M. Michael Loderstedt will speak about Bestiary, a portfolio of prints he created in collaboration with fellow Northeast Ohio artist Craig Lucas. Bestiary is comprised of a series of prints based on the letters of the alphabet, each represented by animals whose name begins with that letter. Loderstedt is a professor emeritus of art in printmaking/photography at the School of Art at Kent State University. The talk is free and open to all.
