news release Kids Tune In to Their Inner Rock Stars this Summer at Akron Art Museum

For Release: June 21, 2016

Akron, Ohio—Singers, drummers and dazzling guitarists aren’t the only artists in the world of rock. The Akron Art Museum will help kids imagine a colorful world for their inner rock star through fun art projects this summer with School of Rock Summer Camp. The program, designed for ages 7 – 12, will be presented each Thursday in July, from 1:00 to 3:00 pm. Inspired by the creativity on view in the Mark Mothersbaugh: Myopia exhibition, museum educators will guide students through art activities to create albums covers, posters, T-shirts and more.

Director of Education Alison Caplan said, “Rock and roll is visual as much as it is about the sound. With the School of Rock Summer Camp we’re inviting students to experience the excitement of those two worlds coming together, using cool techniques and interesting materials.”

Parents and caregivers are welcome but not required to stay. Children are asked to be dressed in their ready-to-make-a-mess best!

$40/Member child • $60/non-member child. Registration fee covers all four weeks. Register online at or call 330.376.9186.
