Local Bands Rock Out at the Akron Art Museum: Third Thursdays Concert Series to Begin October 16, 2008
For Release: October 2008
Akron, Ohio — Start the weekend early this fall with the Akron Art Museum’s Third Thursdays concert series. Beginning October 16, the museum will be hosting live rocking musical acts free to the public in the museum’s Beatrice Knapp McDowell Grand Lobby.
A continuation of the wildly popular Downtown@Dusk summer concert series, Third Thursdays will take place on the third Thursday of each month from October through May. Ideal for professionals getting off work and University of Akron students leaving class, each event begins at 5 pm. Concert-goers can unwind with happy hour specials from 5 pm – 8:45 pm; a cash bar providing signature cocktails will also be available.
Kicking off the season is local indie band Lazy Susan on October 16. A self-described minimalist rock group, Lazy Susan is originally from Mansfield. The band now resides in northeast Ohio, playing shows from Cleveland and Detroit to Boston and New York.
Minneapolis sound artists’ BEATRIX*JAR will perform a live DJ Set and circuit bending demonstration on November 20. On December 18 Christmas cover band Missile Toe will play their rocking twist of classic holiday tunes.
Guests will have the opportunity to shop special sales at the Museum Store and visit the galleries. Admission fees apply to the galleries.
After each concert, the party will continue at neighboring downtown venues the Lockside (207 South Main) and Musica (Market Street and Maiden Lane).
