The Akron Art Museum Book Club Returns
For Release: October 2009
Akron, Ohio, October 22, 2009 — Join the Akron Art Museum’s staff for a discussion of "Seven Days in the Art World," a novel by Sarah Thornton, for the museum’s book club meeting on Thursday, November 5 at 6:30 pm.
Thornton's novel explores how people define art. It is based on intensive research of the international contemporary art world through in-depth interviews and participant observation.
Thornton looks at the struggles that affect artists, critics and curators and how they relate to one another.
From Murakami's studio into the Basel Art Fair, this book gives readers a glimpse into the art world during an economic boom, when contemporary art was considered "a mass entertainment, a luxury good, a job description and for some, a kind of alternative religion."
The book is available for purchase in the Museum Store. Gallery admission is not required to shop.
The book club will meet in the museum’s Martha Stecher Reed Library at 6:30 pm. The program is free, but registration is required. Please call 330.376.9186 x230 to register.
