William Castellana

(Alessandria, Italy, 1968 - )

American, born Italy

William Castellana is an award-winning photographer whose images have been published internationally in periodicals such as Silvershotz (The International Journal of Contemporary Photography), Rangefinder, Creative Quarterly (The Journal of Art & Design), Newsweek, Time, and others. His work resides in the permanent collections of over 50 museums in the US including the Hood Museum of Art, Museum of the City of New York, New Britain Museum of American Art, Southeast Museum of Photography, and the Hunter Museum of American Art. His oeuvre includes tightly controlled still lifes featuring a variety of subjects (flowers, ice, matches, etc.), symmetrical abstractions in the inky style of Rorschach test images, still life images of aluminum and paper constructions that result in abstract pictures reminiscent of Francis Bruguière or Henry Holmes Smith, and the recent Inquisitive Creatures Series, in which photographs of miniature arrangements show the whimsical scientific exploits of a group of erstwhile forest critters.
