Michael Loderstedt

(Plainfield, New Jersey, 1958 - )

North America, American

Michael Loderstedt received a BFA in Printmaking from East Carolina University in 1981 and his MFA from Kent State University in 1985. An Associate Professor of Art in Printmaking/Photography and the Graduate Coordinator of the School of Art at Kent State University, Loderstedt has achieved distinction as a photographer, printmaker and book artist, as well as for his installations. His photographic works are conceptually linked by an interest in utopian endeavors in architecture and the environment in both urban and rural settings. Many of his works, such as Bestiary (with Craig Lucas) and Fountain (with Kevin Everson) incorporate language. Recent projects include photographs of sites where European settlers first made contact with North Americans and relief prints that combine found objects and traditional German handicrafts. Loderstedt has completed international residencies at the Frans Masereel Centrum in Kasterlee, Belgium, and the Grafikwerkstatt in Dresden. His work has been featured in recent exhibitions at SRISA Gallery in Florence, the Kulterrathaus in Dresden, and the Alte Feuerwache Gallery in Loschwitz, Germany and is in the collection of the Cleveland Museum of Art, the Kupferstich Kabinett in Dresden, and the Cleveland Clinic Foundation.
