Alain Kirili

Alain Kirili is a self-taught sculptor who works with bronze, steel, aluminum, terra cotta, resin and concrete, although he is best known for his use of forged steel. Impressed by the exhibition 'United States: Sculpture of the 20th Century, which he saw at the Rodin Museum in Paris, Kirili visited America for the first time in 1965. Ten years later, he established a studio in New York, where he has lived part-time since 1978. Keenly interested in music and history, Kirili considers his sculpture within the context of historical artists and artists of other disciplines, such as music. He invites jazz musicians to perform in his exhibitions and choreographers to invent dances inspired by his sculptures. His work is represented in collections throughout Europe and the United States, including those of the Museum of Modern Art, New York and the Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris.
