Edda Renouf

(Mexico City, Mexico, 1943 - )

North America, American

Strongly influenced by the way our bodies’ experiences shape awareness and logic, Edda Renouf developed an artistic practice guided by the qualities of her materials and her own physical movements. As a college student taking courses on French and art history in Paris in 1963, Renouf began drawing, and completed her first formal art class at the Académie Julian. After studying at the Art Students League in New York and the Kunst Akademie in Munich, Renouf earned an MFA from Columbia University in 1971. Yvon Lambert Gallery, Paris, mounted her first solo exhibition in 1972. In 1991, Renouf moved from New York City to Paris. Her work is a part of many collections internationally, including the Museum of Modern Art, New York; Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris; Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; and the British Museum, London.
