Although Swiss born to Italian parents, Marconi spent his working life in France, mostly in Paris and Brussels. In the late 1860s he listed himself in the Paris directory as photographer to the Ecole Des Beaux-Arts and his speciality was the nude which served as studies for artists. In addition to students, his photographs were also used by artists such as Rodin. His work was often based upon poses that copied known sculptures and paintings. In the 1870s he moved to Brussels where he continued with the same subject.
