Randall Tiedman

(Cleveland, Ohio, 1949 - 2012, Cleveland, Ohio)

North America, American

Tiedman was a life-long Clevelander living most of his life in North Collinwood near the industrial outskirts of the city. He had no formal training in art (although he was accepted to the Cleveland Institute of Art, he did not attend) but was passionately self-taught and first began exhibiting his artwork in 1982. Shortly after he returned from serving in Vietnam, Tiedman found work as a librarian, a position he held for over thirty years, until his retirement in 2003. He was also an amateur boxer who had a long connection to the sport.

Tiedman was active in the Artists Archive of the Western Reserve, serving as on its board for many years. After being diagnosed with heart disease in 2004, he produced his most celebrated works of his career and had numerous exhibitions. His work is in the collections of The Albright-Knox Art Gallery, The Butler Museum of American Art and Progressive Insurance.
