Anne Lindberg

(Iowa City, Iowa, 1962 - )

North America, American

Anne Lindberg has created a substantial body of work using line—both on matboard and on other two-dimensional surfaces—and in three dimensions, creating environments using Egyptian cotton thread and staples that act on our perceptions. Following her graduation from Miami University in Ohio, where she was introduced to dyeing indigo, Lindberg counted threads and made detailed diagrams of West African textiles as a curatorial assistant at the Smithsonian Institution’s Museum of Natural History. Realizing her interest was in making art, Lindberg enrolled in the graduate fiber program at the Cranbrook Academy of Art, earning her Master of Fine Arts degree in 1988. Anne Lindberg held teaching and administrative positions in the Foundation Department at the Kansas City Art Institute from 1991 through 1998, when she left to concentrate on her studio practice. Her installations and drawings have been featured in numerous one-person (Sheldon Memorial Art Gallery, 2005; Nevada Museum of Art, 2012; Haw Contemporary, Kansas City and Omi International Art Center, 2016) and group exhibitions (Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, Kansas City, 2006; Cranbrook Art Museum, 2007; Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art, Kansas City, 2010; Bom Retiro Cultural Center, Sao Paolo, 2011; Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and Contemporary Art Center, Cincinnati, 2014), among others. Collectors who have commissioned or acquired Lindberg’s work include the Detroit Institute of Arts, Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, Nevada Museum of Art and the Spencer Museum at the University of Kansas.
