(London, England, 1900 - 1989, Litchfield, Connecticut)
American, born England
Leighton's prints are distinctive for their large areas of flat color defined by fine engraved lines, a style that resembles stained glass. In fact, in addition to being a printmaker, painter, and writer, Leighton worked as a stained glass designer in her native England. Like other artists of her generation, Leighton sought to revive the handicrafts of the pre-industrial age.
