Katharine Calvin

Katharine Calvin, a painter who taught art for 30 years at Central High School in Akron, and at the Akron Art Institute, she studied under Charles Hawthorne, Hans Hoffmann and some well-known Mexican artists. She exhibited and won prizes in area artist shows and May Shows at the Akron Art Institute and had a solo show there in February 1934. As a teacher, Calvin was an important influence on Raphael Gleitsmann, who studied with her after he graduated from high school, and Julius Faysash. Calvin was also was a founding memeber of the Women's Art League.
