Akron artist McMoore has been obsessively drawing a similar set of scenarios for over twenty-seven years. His cast of characters—Big Evelina, Michael Johnson, Deputy Kirk and Sheriff Bobby Joe McDermitt—are usually depicted in funeral parlors and funeral processions. In his work, McMoore tends to disregard sex-specific characteristics: his deputies usually wear earrings and high heels, while the women he draws are heavy set and distinctly masculine.
