Scott Miller

(Cleveland, Ohio, 1955 - 2008, Cleveland, Ohio)

North America, American

A Cleveland native, Miller studied at the now-defunct Cooper School of Art in Cleveland before earning a BFA in photography from the Cleveland Institute of Art in 1983. Miller was a prolific painter who, along with other artists in northeast Ohio, helped transform Cleveland art in the 1980s by affecting a shift from abstraction to figurative imagery. Miller split his time between Cleveland and Los Angeles and had a storefront studio/gallery in Lakewood, Ohio. His work has been exhibited throughout the United States as well as in Japan and Canada. He had a solo exhibition at the Akron Art Museum in 1991, and his work has been exhibited at MOCA Cleveland, SPACES and the Cleveland Museum of Art. In 2010, Convivium33 Gallery in Cleveland organized a survey of Miller’s art that spanned three decades.
