Europe, French

In 1944, Janine Niepce graduated a license for the history of art and of archeology at the Sorbonne. As a young woman, she was involved with the French resistance of World War II and took part in the liberation of Paris as a liaison officer. Her own personal spirit of rebellion was evident throughout her career, including recording the youth movement of the late 1960s in its many facets. Then from 1963 she began reporting from further afield in Europe and around the world, including Japan, Cambodia, India, USA, Canada. She comes from an illustrious photographic family that starts with her cousin Nicephore Niepce, to whom is credited the first photograph.
