Beauchamp's intensely expressive paintings often feature people with an array of objects and unusual animals such as camels (like that seen here), warthogs, or bats in unlikely combinations. The artist insists that his subjects are not intended as symbols. He chooses them because they appeal to him and places them in combinations that give the greatest visual impact.
