This print depicts one of the students wounded during the National Guard shootings at the anti-Vietnam War demonstration at Kent State University in May 1970. At his home in England, Hamilton photographed his television screen as the BBC broadcast footage of the shooting. He replicated the photograph in print format by creating thirteen silkscreens, a stenciling method in which a design is transferred to a fine fabric, blank areas are coated with an impermeable substance, and ink is then pushed through the open areas of the fabric to transfer the design onto the printing surface.
