More Information

For Held, perspective was an expressive tool rather than merely a scientific method of creating spatial illusions. In 'Skywatch I' he presents multiple points of view simultaneously, beckoning you into his elusive space. Held’s desire to find a visual language to express intangible feelings led him to spend an entire decade exploring relationships between geometric shapes using exclusively black and white paint. By compressing space, the circlular format enhances the illusion of forms receding or pushing out into space.
