One of Pop art's most successful figures, Rosenquist creates billboard-size paintings that entice the viewer with their size and color yet confound by juxtaposing images that may not add up to a unified message or story. Lithographs like "Paper Clip", while more modest in size, present the same fragmented view of contemporary American popular culture as his larger works. Rosenquist's conglomerations may or may not be a commentary on consumer society.
