This image depicts two of summer’s later blooms, rich magenta ironweed and frilly Queen Anne’s lace. The Cuyahoga Valley often experiences foggy mornings when the higher lands around are sunny, a result of the interaction between the river and air temperatures. As the fog burns off, pollinating insects start to busy themselves on the blooms. A patient and early visitor to this field would experience the cool quiet of the foggy morning turning into a warm late summer day filled with the hum of insects.
