Rakoff’s photographs of urban night scenes depict the real world in a hauntingly surreal way. Knowing that the camera and film interpret artificial light differently than does the human eye, Rakoff seeks out subjects illuminated by a variety of light sources. In this image, the concrete footings of a demolished bridge are bathed in a green glow produced by streetlights.
