More Information

Malcah Zeldis creates stylized, vividly colored images of people she admires or with whom she identifies. In this work, she offers her version of a scene from the 1946 movie 'Gilda' in which actress Rita Hayworth, playing the title character, performs a mock strip tease. By enlarging Hayworth’s figure far out of proportion to her surroundings, Zeldis glorifies the star’s compelling combination of sensuality, confidence and humor.
