Brush made her images in this period by projecting slides of objects (taken by her in the past) onto shallow three-dimensional spaces – most often portions of a room, sometimes including stretched fabric as a “screen” – then photographing the scene in black and white. The print that resulted, which was then hand-colored with pencils and photographic dyes, suggests that the visualization of time and memory is a fragmented process open to reinvention and suggestion.
